How's my writing?
As part of an Advanced Technical Writing class (Eng 418-002, Penn State, Abram Anders),
I wrote two pieces that I hope you enjoy!
Description Set
The United States of America has been spending billions of dollars on stream restoration projects. One of the most fundamental ways to successfully restore a healthy stream system is to understand it hydrologically. The most fundamental hydrological measurement used to characterize a stream is its flow or discharge.
My goal for this description set was to discuss methods of calculating streamflow in a way that makes it easy for teachers and students a field–based Stream Restoration course. The genre of this description set is a book chapter. Since this course is a field-based, the material is presented in a manner that the student or teacher can go out to a real stream system and apply one of the methods to calculate streamflow.
Instruction Set
This instruction set focuses on the determination of soil texture. It was designed for readers of a gardening magazine who would like to know the texture of their soil so that they can grow the right plants or use the necessary amendments to grow the plants they want. Instructions were designed for an audience eager to perform the task themselves, instead of spending money to send their soils to a testing lab. Instructions were made simple…little or no technology involved, using materials would be items readily available in an average household.
